HowHow

Research you can inspect.

Project-local control in Basic Mode. Conversational research orchestration in Reasoner Mode.

  • PUBLIC BASIC SOURCE

THE PROBLEM

The handoff is where the evidence is lost

Search, PDF tools, coding agents, experiment trackers, writing systems and orchestrators each help with part of research. The chain between them loses exact source spans, hypothesis rationale, frozen evaluation, failed runs, claim lineage, licence context and approval history. Meanwhile “paper-ready” gets read as evidence-backed.

THE PRINCIPLES

Eight rules the system is built on

01

Evidence before prose

Without a source span, run or manifest, nothing becomes a factual claim.

02

Autonomy within consent

Automatic inside the approved brief, budget, permissions and stop policy. The system never grants itself permission.

03

Reuse before rebuild

Adapt, wrap and compose existing tools rather than forking large projects early.

04

One canonical truth

HowHow owns durable state, events, provenance, gates and approvals. An adapter never becomes a second source of truth.

05

Failures are evidence

Failed, rejected and inconclusive paths are kept, classified and reused.

06

Truthful readiness

Package-ready is not the same as novel, correct, accepted, safe or submitted.

07

Human-owned decisions

Direction, sensitive actions, meaningful spend and publication rest with a person.

08

Portable by construction

Records and artifacts export and rebuild when provider, OS or orchestrator changes.

RESEARCH INTEGRITY

What we will not do to look better

No unexplained metrics
No volatile prices, no unsupported percentages and no agent-count vanity figures presented as evidence of quality.
No orphan claims
A claim without a resolvable evidence path is labelled unsupported rather than softened.
No hidden failures
The deliberately failed run stays in the record. A package without failures is treated as incomplete.
No manufactured agreement
Reviews run against separate snapshots. Dissent is immutable and visible.

Navin Research

HowHow is developed by Navin Research for applied-ML engineers, advanced graduate students and small research teams. The Reasoner PRD and Basic Mode CLI source are public; the broader product remains private alpha.
